Old World Style Screening Room

Follow progress on this old world style screening room. The room in progress, contains an arched and domed ceiling and faux cast stone columns.  There will be a wide, 3 step landing in front of the screen, with faux cast stone side walls and possibly planter urns flanking the stage area.

My first preliminary drawing of the left side wall was just to get an idea of the direction the customer wanted to go in.  They liked the general look, so I proceeded with the front stage/proscenium (depicted in the next shot).  This drawing here shows curtains on the side walls towards the front of the room.  I plan to use an acoustically transparent material for the curtains and install sound absorption panels behind these curtains to tame echo caused by "early wall reflections".  There is the possibility that a landscape mural will be painted between the other columns (wrought iron area) to give the effect of looking out from a balcony.

Here is my rendering of the right side of the front stage/proscenium.  We will have heavy duty theatre curtains that will run on a motorized track behind the proscenium.  It will be automated to open/close when the theatre is turned on/off.  This image also shows the planter/urn on the flanking walls. The design of the room has now changed from the drawings and there will not any arches in the room. Instead, the builder (Doug Buchanan of DB Construction) came up with a great idea of framing in domed ceilings.  Framing shots below clarify how these changes will look.

This plan view depicts the seating riser, front steps leading to the stage and flanking stem walls.  The area behind the second row of seat and steps leading down to the floor are not detailed here.  Again, the builder (Doug Buchanan) had some good ideas to implement this.  He is going to ramp the descending area for wheel chair access with a landing in each corner and at the second row of seats.  The equipment rack will be flush in the rear left corner of the room and the entrance to the room is in the middle of the back wall.
