Why an upconverting DVD player?

A high definition display (television or projector) displays images at either 1280 X 720 pixels or 1920 X 1080 pixels. A standard definition DVD is only 720 X 480 pixels. In order for the DVD's picture to completely fill the displays screen, the image has to be upconverted, or scaled, to fit the screen. This can be done in the DVD player, the display, or in an outboard scaler. The scaling circuitry included in the Oppo DVD players rivals the highest end scalers available today, and allows the signal to remain in the digital domain from the source to the display. The results are nothing less than stunning.

DCDi by Faroudja video processing technology with progressive scan, film mode detection, TrueLife™ enhancement and motion adaptive noise reduction. Video is analyzed on a single pixel granularity to detect presence or absence of angled lines and edges, which are then processed to produce a smooth natural looking image without visible artifacts (jaggies). The result is a breath-taking picture with vivid color, fine details, and life-like picture quality.

DivX® and XviD Video

Official DivX® Certified product, certified to the Home Theater Profile. Plays all versions of DivX® video (including DivX® 6) with standard playback of DivX® media files. Plays XviD and .SRT, .SMI, .IDX and .SUB format
